Depart from Fes after breakfast. The first stop is in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Continue to the cedar forest of Azrou to observe wild Barbary monkeys. Journey through Midelt and the spectacular Ziz Valley. Arrive in Merzouga and enjoy dinner and overnight in a riad or lodge at the edge of the desert.
Begin your 4x4 desert excursion: visit the Merzouga lake (seasonal), explore the Gnawa village of Khamlia with live traditional music, and meet a nomadic Berber family for tea and a local lunch. In the late afternoon, embark on a camel ride into the dunes toward your desert camp. Enjoy a sunset over the Sahara, followed by dinner, traditional music, and a night under the stars.
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, then return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4. Visit the traditional market of Rissani (souks on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays). Continue toward the impressive Todra Gorges, known for their high cliffs and climbing spots. Overnight stay in a hotel or riad in Boumalne Dades.
Drive along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Stop at Kalaat M’Gouna, known for its rose-based products, and continue to Skoura to visit the iconic Amridil Kasbah. Arrive in Ouarzazate and explore the Kasbah of Taourirt. Dinner and overnight in Ouarzazate.
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Ben Haddou, a legendary fortified village. Continue through the scenic Ounila Valley to reach the lesser-visited Telouet Kasbah. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m), and arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon.
