Depart from Fes after breakfast. The first stop is in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture. Continue to the cedar forest of Azrou to observe wild Barbary monkeys. Journey through Midelt and cross the spectacular Ziz Valley, dotted with palm groves and kasbahs. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in a riad or lodge at the edge of the desert.
Begin your 4x4 desert excursion with a visit to Merzouga lake (seasonal) for bird-watching. Explore the village of Khamlia, home to Gnawa musicians, and enjoy live traditional music. Visit a nomadic Berber family for tea and a local lunch. In the late afternoon, embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Witness the magical Sahara sunset before arriving at your desert camp. Dinner, music, and overnight under the starry desert sky.
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4, then continue to Rissani, known for its historic market (busiest on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays). Travel onward through palm oases to reach the impressive Todra Gorges, where sheer cliffs rise dramatically on both sides. Dinner and overnight in a hotel or riad in the Dades Valley.
Drive along the scenic “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Stop at Kalaat M’Gouna, famous for its rose products, and continue to Skoura to explore the well-preserved Amridil Kasbah. Arrive in Ouarzazate and visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, once a seat of regional power. Dinner and overnight stay in Ouarzazate
After breakfast, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar featured in many films and series. Continue through the picturesque Ounila Valley to explore the lesser-known Telouet Kasbah. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m). Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon. Overnight stay in Marrakech.
Spend the day exploring Marrakech’s vibrant medina, bustling souks, and iconic landmarks such as the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, and Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Depending on your schedule, enjoy free time for shopping or relaxation before your transfer to the airport or onward journey.
